Program
The theme of the 2017 Schreiber Violin Masterclass is the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, its’ singing quality, the spatial dimension of the polyphony and how a four string instrument can give justice to its’ complexity.
The masterclass takes place in the chapel of Chateau de Bussy Rabutin. The acoustics of this 14th century chapel reveals Bach’s harmony quite differently from a concert hall and guides you to find the right sound, phrasing and style. Students can also play in the local church from 11th century.
Specific choice of etudes and exercises will strengthen your violin technique and help in playing double stops and chords. Additionally, you may also study the repertoire of your choice.
During your seven day stay you will participate in three masterclasses and four individual lessons. Every morning you may join in a session of qigong or Feldenkreis exercises. Every other day there will be an opportunity to visit some of the most stunning sights of Burgundy.
The Schreiber Masterclass ends with students giving a concert in the church of Bussy le Grand.
